Resources for digging deeper

The resources provided are to help you dig deeper in areas we have introduced at Lafayette. Remember to read critically rather than just accepting the material as the final word. Approach reading and listening as you approach eating fish: eat the meat, spit out the bones. I hope processing this material will help you put down deeper roots in the faith. — Bob Clark

Remember, Bob said, “My point is not to say you should do exactly what they have done or end up where they have ended up, but to see how some others have been through the process.”

For those who asked about the Rose Parade.

Well, we spent so much time on the tour of all the floats, that we did not have time to volunteer to work on a specific float. However, I do want to tell you that this has been an amazing experience! Keep an eye out for some great floats — the Yellow Submarine, How To Train A Dragon, The Blue Diamond Almonds, Chipotle, and Cal-Poly. Our overall favorite was Cal-Poly. One more thing, I couldn’t believe how delicious the Chipotle float smelled! The aroma of all the vegetables and spices was just beautiful! Laura and I will be sitting in the main grandstands just as the parade begins and we were warned we might be on television. Chances are, if the camera finds me I will be doing something goofy! Now I am off to bed since we are waking up at 3:30am! Happy New Year! Hope you enjoy the parade if you watch!

Here is the quote Bob mentioned in the adult class —
“What would I do without church? How would I survive? Where would I be without bread and cup and Word and love each week? My job sometimes requires critiquing the church when she fails—as she often does. But make no mistake: I am still madly in love with that imperfect bride. Living without church would be like skipping meals or holding my breath. It’s Saturday and I’m bone tired. Laying in bed, unable to will my tired muscles to move, I recall that tomorrow is Sunday and e x h a l e. I’m so grateful that, after a hard and draining week, I can return to the table to remember and be revived.”
